Preserving Generations

In 2002, Generations Community Credit Union formed with the goal of keeping troubled credit unions alive — preserving their rich histories and protecting their legacies within the communities they served. Now greater than the sum of its parts, Generations  is an aggregate of ten credit unions. Currently headquartered in Durham, NC, Generations primarily serves underserved communities in rural North Carolina by providing Strength Through Unity.

Preserving the Legacies of:

Gateway Community Development Credit Union (Henderson)
Perquimans Credit Union (Hertford)
St. Luke Credit Union (Windsor)
Chowan Credit Union (Edenton)
Industrial Credit Union (Roanoke Rapids)
Martin Credit Union (Williamston) – merged into St. Luke and later into GCCU
Metropolitan Community Credit Union (Washington)
Caswell Credit Union (Yanceyville)
South East Credit Union (Wilmington)
Tri-County Credit Union (Ahoskie) – merged into St. Luke and later into GCCU

Generations’ designation as a community development credit union (CDCU) is unique, allowing us to serve our members beyond the reach of banks and mainstream credit unions. As a CDCU, Generations is able to accept non-member deposits, secondary capital, grants, and low-interest loans from the state and federal government. This access to funds allows Generations to grow, better positioning us to preserve the roots of the credit unions we inherited, helping them grow and prosper.
